The traditional Mayan way of building uses natural materials such as bamboo, clay, and straw. These building materials are easy to find and are quite durable. Over the past 50 years people have begun using non-natural building materials such as cement, metal, and cinder blocks, yet the traditional way of building is actually cheaper and creates a more well-ventilated house. Here is a building which will be used as a model and training site for local communities who wish to move back to traditional construction methods.
